Can Dogs Eat a Banana?

The answer of this question is Yes, but you should do so in moderation. The highly nutritious and popular fruit, Banana contains loads of electrolytes, amino acids, minerals, vitamins B6 and C, fibre, potassium and manganese. The benefits of these nutrients of banana are as follows:

  • Potassium- This nutrient is great for muscle and blood vessel function. Further, it regulates the acidity of body fluids
  • Fibre- It is a handy home remedy for the occasional bout of doggy diarrhoea or constipation
  • Magnesium- This nutrient is important for energy transportation and protein building in the dog’s body
  • Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6) – It metabolizes proteins and regulates the blood cell function so that the blood can bring more oxygen to the muscle and brain.
  • Vitamin C- It is a powerful antioxidant that protects the body cells from damage and helps build cartilage.
  • Sugar content- Sugar content of banana is used as treats for the athletic and working dogs and it also provide energy to the dog.

How to give banana to dogs?

You can mash a banana and mix it in with the food of dog. Further, small banana pieces make great treats for dogs and it is best to use as reward for your dog.  You should keep in mind that too much banana in a dog’s diet can cause constipation and if your dog is prone to constipation, it is unwise to add banana to his diet. In addition to this, the potassium found in banana, while very healthy, is not tolerated as well by some dogs. Therefore, avoid giving too much banana to your dog.
