Doberman Breed Information

History:

In the late nineteenth century, Doberman pinscher originated in Germany in the year 1860s, apparently by crossing the ancient short haired shepherds- German Pinschers, Greyhounds, Manchester Terriers, Beaucerons, and Rottweilers. Louis Dobermann, a German tax collector, is the creator of this mixture breed. The breed is also named after its developer (just shortening “n”). He used to travel often through the bandit infested areas, so he decided to originate a bodyguard and watchdog that will be capable of handling any type of situation that may arise. In 1876, Doberman was shown at a dog show which immediately turned out to be a great success. The breed was first recognized in 1908 by the AKC. Presently, this breed is frequently used in tracking, military work, therapy work, Scutzhund, competitive obedience, search and rescue, guarding, and watchdog.

Appearance

The Doberman is a squarely built, medium sized dog with a solid, muscular body. His skull is flat, and head is long. The nose color of Doberman depends on the color of his coat; if black dog then black nose, red dog then dark brown nose, blue dog then dark gray nose, fawn dog then dark tan nose and white dog then pink nose. The almond shaped eyes usually get the various shades of brown, but the shades largely depend on the color of the dog coat. The ears of Doberman are usually cropped to keep them erect, but many breeders are keeping the dog’s ears natural now. Broad chest, cropped ears, docked tails, straight legs, flat hard coat are the major characteristics of Doberman. The flat coat might be black, blue- gray, black with tan markings, white, fawn and red. The markings appear above the eye, on the fore chest, muzzle, legs, tail, feet and throat.

Temperament

A super-active and super-intelligent dog — these are the qualities displayed by a Doberman Pinscher. When you get a Doberman, you are getting an extremely trustworthy, playful and loyal dog that is so much fun loving with the family. He is a natural protector who will never be shy or hesitate to react when he feels that his family is in danger. But they will never get aggressive or threatening without any solid reason.

The Dobies love to remain busy, both physically as well as mentally. They learn very quickly, and it is quite easy to train them. As they can learn quickly, it is a big challenge to keep the training interesting and fresh. If the owner provides him with a kind and consistent leadership, he will not act overly willful or overly stubborn and can put forward his own thoughts and ideas.

The Temperament of a Doberman is affected by a large number of factors, such as, training, socialization and heredity. Doberman puppies possessing good temperament are playful and curious and they are willing to approach different people and they like to be held by them. Never choose a puppy that is beating up his other mates on the road or hiding in one corner.
