Teacup Chihuahuas are lively, beautiful and tenacious. They are so small that they can easily sit on a teacup and hence the name teacup Chihuahua.

Breed Information

The Chihuahua is one of the oldest and smallest known dog breeds. Their engaging temperament, cuteness and affectionate nature make them popular pets especially for urban or apartment life. The “Teacup” Chihuahua is not an official dog breed. Teacups are smaller-than-average Chihuahuas, and that is why they are called Teacup, Pocket or Miniature Chihuahua .

The only characteristic that makes a Teacup Chihuahua different from other Chihuahuas is its size. A “big” Chihuahua weighs not more than 6 pounds, but there is no minimum weight that applies, and teacups usually weigh in at 3 pounds or even less than that. How to Care A Teacup Chihuahua?

  • Keep your teacup puppy off of high objects, as jumping down from them can cause physical problems
  • Like many small dog breeds, teacups are prone to developing hypoglycemia, which is a condition that occurs when blood glucose levels drop below normal. Therefore, feed your teacup several times a day
  • Exercise your teacup puppy to keep it at a proper weight, because, teacups are prone to becoming overweight
  • Brush your teacup teeth every day, as small breeds like teacup Chihuahua are at risk for developing gum and tooth disease
  • Eliminate all the dangers (open wires, toxic products, pointed or sharp objects) that may hurt your teacups.
