Kombai Dog

The Kombai is an Indian dog breed and just like the other Indian breeds, it draws its name after the town in which it was developed i.e. Kombai in Tamil Nadu. This sight hound dog breed is different from other sight hound dog breeds, because it does not have the vision as the other sight hounds. History

This dog breed has been developed in Southern part of India. It is a general belief that this breed and its brown and red coats with black mask has made people believe that it is descend of fox. This breed’s existence can be traced back to the 15th century. In ancient times, they were used to hunt wild boar, bison and deer. Furthermore, some people believe that these dogs have been used by the army of the Marudhu brothers. The Marudhu brothers, also known as Marudhu Pandias, headed the revolt against the British subjugation of the Kalaiar Koil of the Sivagangai Kingdom in the beginning of the 19th century.

Temperament

This is one of the bravest breed of dogs, and if this breed wants it can fight its enemy fearlessly till death as well. This trait of these dogs makes them the perfect guard dogs. Kombis do not take to strangers kindly, and if they see them as a threat it may have dire consequences. This breed has a great quantity of energy, therefore, it needs regular exercise to ensure agility and the exercise also gives its mind the required stimulation. Furthermore, they do well in apartment, provided you give them their dose of everyday exercise.
